Shirley Dufresne, 79, of Winthrop Harbor, IL, died on Thursday, November 2, 2006, at Rolling Hills Manor in Zion.
She was born September 7, 1927, in Rochelle, IL, and graduated from Waukegan Township High School in 1945. Shirley married Paul Dufresne on February 21, 1954, in Waukegan, and was a member of the Winthrop Harbor United Methodist Church where she formerly taught Sunday School. She more recently attended the First United Methodist Church in Waukegan. Shirley retired as editor from the Zion-Benton News after 30 years of service. In 1976 she was named "Mother of the Year" by the Waukegan News-Sun after receiving recommendation from her daughter, Randy . Shirley was a loving wife , mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, who raised 7 children. She always displayed a positive attitude and a loving smile. Shirley was compassionate and giving.
Survivors include six children, Cheryl (Paul) Kelly of Round Lake Beach, IL, Denyse (Bill) Shelton of Big Sandy, TN, (formerly of Beach Park, Il ), Linda (Jim) Siwek of Grayslake, IL, Randy Della Posta of Zion, IL, Mark (Gail) Dufresne of Beach Park, IL, and Stephen (Gina) Dufresne of Zion, IL; fourteen grandchildren, Richard, Christopher, and Joseph Levin, Jennifer, Lisa, and Billy Shelton, Anna Della Posta, Paul Kelly Jr., and Mark Jr., Kyle, Cody, Joshua Dufresne, Jim (Maureen) Siwek, and Stacey (Andy) Martorano; fourteen great- grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Peggy Guibault of Kenosha, WI; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death her parents; husband Paul Dufresne in 1989; son, Paul Guibault Jr. in 2002; and sister, Joy Epker in 2005
A Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, November 7, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Waukegan, 128 N. Martin Luther King Dr., Waukegan, with Rev. B.J. Birkhahn-Rommelfanger officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Visitation will be Monday, November 6, 2006, from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the First United Methodist of Waukegan would be appreciated.
