Shirley A. Figeas

Shirley Avon Figeas, of Zion, Illinois passed away February 16, 2025 in Zion. She was born August 1, 1927 in Waukegan, Illinois to parents Howard and Isabelle Garnant.

Shirley graduated from Waukegan High School before getting her teaching degree at Depauw University in Greencastle, Indiana. She married her husband, William Figeas December 10, 1948 in Greencastle, Indiana. She and William would frequently camp at the church campground in Delefield, Wisconsin.

Shirley was a very active member of the Christ Episcopal Church in Waukegan, Illinois. She worked for the Waukegan School District for many years as a teacher and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Waukegan since 1938. She was also a member of the Christ Episcopal Woman’s Auxiliary where she taught Sunday school, as well as being an avid reader. 

Shirley is survived by her children, William (Mary Figeas, and Judy (Daron) Mackey; grandson, Jeff (Melissa) Smith; and great-grandchildren, Zach, Kailani, and Liliana.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Figeas; daughter Patricia; and parents, Howard and Isabelle Garnant. 

A memorial service will be held Saturday March 15, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Christ Episcopal Church 410 Grand Avenue Waukegan, Illinois.
