Shirley Walzer Jacobsen, age 89, died Wednesday August 25, 2010 at Heartland Country Village in Black Earth Wisconsin. Shirley was born in Baudette, Minnesota on December 1, 1920, the daughter of Jesse Elias and Vera Dinora Walzer. While attending beauty school in Minneapolis, Shirley met then seminary student George T L Jacobsen and was married on September 9, 1944 in Milwaukee. Rev George and Shirley raised 5 children and together served many parishes in their 45 year career, her special passion being choir and music programs. Shirley was a most wonderful mother and loving friend to many. Shirley had a strong and abiding faith that sustained her throughout her life, she was a true optimist. Shirley is survived by her children George(Mary Ann) Jacobsen of Milwaukee WI, Elizabeth (Dale) Colwell of Beach Park, IL, John (Lois) Jacobsen of Madison, WI, Margaret (Loren ) Congdon of Winthrop Harbor, IL, Mary (Gus) Paraskevoulakos of Middleton WI; twelve Grandchildren Sam and Sara Jacobsen, Rick (Paula) Colwell, Jennifer (Scott) Gerbig, John Colwell, Nathan and Daniel Jacobsen, Maleana (Mark) Kruckeberg, Dinora and Katherine Congdon, Eve and Anna Paraskevoulakos; and nine great Grandchildren Wesley, Matthew and Emma Colwell, Madison, Katelyn, Austin and Collin Gerbig, and Noah and Grace Kruckeberg. She was preceded in death by her husband Rev George T.L. Jacobsen; grandson Caleb Congdon; sister Phyllis Anderson, brother Benton Walzer, and her parents. Our family wishes to express our deepest thanks and appreciation to all the caring staff of Heartland who have been loving care givers. Shirley loved and appreciated you all so much. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 31, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3350 North Delany Road, Waukegan, Illinois with a Visitation from 10:00 a.m. until time of services. A visitation will also be held Monday, August 30, 2010, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, Illinois. Interment will be held on Wednesday, September 1st, at 11:00 a.m. at Wisconsin Memorial Park, Brookfield, Wisconsin. Memorials to Heartland Country Village music program have been suggested.
