Shirley A. Lopez, 78, of Zion, IL, went home to be with the Lord on March 30, 2024, surrounded by her children in the comfort of her home.
Shirley was truly an amazing woman whose strength, resilience, and boundless love defined her remarkable life. She was characterized by her unwavering determination, her beautiful spirit and her heart of gold that impacted the lives of many.
To her children, Shirley was much more than a mother, she was a friend. Being their greatest cheerleader, Shirley offered endless support, encouragement and always taught her kids the invaluable lesson of hard work. Her loyalty and commitment to her family was unwavering.
Upon completing her education at the College of Lake County, Shirley was dedicated to her career as a surgical nurse at St. Therese and Vista Hospital, nurturing and guiding those around her, both through her professional endeavors and her personal commitments.
As a member of Journey Church, Shirley’s relationship with the Lord was foundational. Serving in different capacities throughout the years, her generosity and love for the Lord will be remembered.
Shirley is survived by her children, Rachelle (Joe) Mabbett, Denise (John) Lopez, Steven (Tonya) Lopez, Karen (Steve) Brown; grandchildren, John (Kayleigh), Amanda, Nicole, Maria, Haley, Steven Jr. Layla, Alex, Ashley, Kyle, Joshua (Jazi), Jacob; 7 great grandchildren; and sister Nancy Hendrix.
She is preceded in death by Bernard Lopez, son Bernie Lopez Jr.; parents, Stanley & Louise Stroud; and brother, Ken Stroud.
A celebration of Shirley’s life will be held at Congdon Funeral Home 3012 Sheridan Road Zion, Illinois 60099 on April 9, 2024 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 pm, inviting all whose lives were touched by her grace and love.
