Stephen "Steve" Turner, 59, of Winthrop Harbor died June 26, 2013 at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville after a brief battle with lung cancer.
Steve was born June 22, 1954 in Waukegan. He was a pipefitter and maintenance tradesman having worked for various businesses throughout his career. Steve was a talented handyman who could fix or build anything that he put his mind to. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and bowling. Steve's hobbies were cooking and baking. His obsession was NASCAR. He often traveled to see races and always cheered for his favorite driver, Tony Stewart.
Steve is survived by his wife of 39 years, Marleen; good friend and "other wife" Marian Swanson; father and mother Robert and Betty Turner; mother-in-law Florence Cunningham; brothers and sisters, Sharon Lewis, William (Judith) Turner, and Gerald Turner; brother-in-law, Richard (Diane) Cunningham, 3 sisters-in-law Eileen (John) Bradley, Karen (Robert) Zbynski, and Janeen (Michael) Bangart; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law William Cunningham; maternal grandmother Ruby Briscoe; and his dear friend Kevin Swanson.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, June 30, 2013 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Interment will be private.
