Sue C. Buttera

December 21, 1950 — September 30, 2024

With heavy hearts, we are saddened to announce that Sue Carol Buttera, 73, of Gurnee, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2024 at home surrounded by her family.

Sue was born on December 21, 1950 and spent her life in the Waukegan and Beach Park areas. She graduated from Zion-Benton Township Highschool with the class of 1969. Sue married her high school sweetheart, Robert Buttera on October 3, 1970. She enjoyed working as a Registered Nurse and after the arrival of her two daughters left the healthcare field to work in customer service. Sue found more flexibility working for Walmart for 20 years until retirement. Sue's real passion was her daughters and granddaughter. She enjoyed making pine cone wreaths with her sister in-law, traveling to craft shows, playing bingo back in the day with her in-laws, and attending “Scoop the Loop", with her one true love, Bob. She was a loving mother, a strong woman, and had a deep love for the LORD. Sue was a member of the Christian Catholic Church for many years until the family moved out west, but she always kept God in her heart through prayers never losing her strong faith. Sue was diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma on December 30, 2021 and with her unwavering faith and strength she fought for 3 long years, until it returned early August and sadly, she lost her battle. Her love for her family and friends was evident throughout her life and her sickness. She cherished nothing more than spending time with her daughters, Janene (Andy Richardson), and Janelle (Lee Pinkowski); her granddaughter Lillyan, who was her pride and joy; lifelong friend of 66 years, Leilana Tillis Loos; best friend, roommate and sister-in-law, Ronda Buttera; and her many grand-dogs.

Sue was preceded in death by her father, Melvin Evans in 1981; mother, Harriet Evans in 2012; and her beloved husband, Robert Blake Buttera in 2002.
