Sylvia Margaret Kangas, a longtime resident of Park City, IL, passed away February 10, 2013, at home.
Sylvia was born June 17, 1916, in Wakefield, MI to Victor and Louisa Maki. The family moved to the North Bright area of Owen, WI in 1926. Sylvia married Edward Hutter May 20, 1937, and lived in Lake Forest, IL, and both South and North Carolina. With the death of her husband in 1943 she moved back to Owen to raise their 2 children, Edward and Marlene. Sylvia married Onni Kangas June 7, 1952. She worked at McMillan Bakery until Onni's death in 1957. Sylvia then moved to Illinois and worked for Abbott Laboratories until she retired.
Survivors include son Edward (Mary Lou) Hutter of Fort Wayne, IN; son-in-law, Richard Morrow of Beach Park, IL; grandchildren, Kathleen Morrow, Sandra Jefferies, Carolyn Morrow, Julie Rodriquiz, Suzanne Gleason, Henry Hutter, and Gail Price; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her daughter, Marlene Morrow; husbands, Edward Hutter and Onni Kangas; her parents; sisters, Vieno Peter, Lillian Cascarano, Elsa Palmieri, Helvia Nixon, Ruth Stritar, and Louise Smock; and brothers, Toivo J. (Puga) Maki, Arnold Maki, and William Maki.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2013, from 6:00-9:00 p.m at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL, and again on Friday, February 15, 2013, from 10:00-11:00 a.m. with funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 3350 N. Delany Rd., Waukegan, IL, with Rev. Jeffery Koth, officiating. Interment is private for the family. Memorial donations are suggested to St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
