Theodore J. "Ted" Whiteside, 89 of Zion, IL, died on Saturday, October 11, 2008 at Clare Bridge, Brookdale Senior Living, Kenosha, WI.
Theodore was born October 30, 1918 in Zion and was a lifelong member of Christ Community Church. He was a member of American Legion Post #865, Zion, resulting from his years in the United States Navy during WWII. While in the Navy he gained the status of First Class Aviation Machinist's Mate - responsible for maintenance and operations of a PBY. In Zion he worked in the drapery business for over 60 years. With his wife, Margaret, he owned and operated Whiteside Drapery Fabricators in Zion for over 40 years.
Survivors include one daughter, JoAnn (Robert E. Ekstrand) Van Ballegooijen of San Jose, CA; and two granddaughters, Eden (Janice) Van Ballegooijen and Dana (Thomas) Keitel; and one great-grandson, Mason Thomas; and one son, Jon Robert (Esther) Whiteside of Glenview, IL; and two granddaughters, Andrea Whiteside and Jaclyn Whiteside.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Margaret P. Whiteside; two brothers, Robert and Irwin Whiteside; two sisters, Miriam Portegys and Katherine Erickson.
Visitation will be on Friday, October 17, 2008, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 18th, at 10:00 a.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home with Pastor Jon Wiziarde of Christ Community Church officiating. Interment will follow at Northshore Garden of Memories, North Chicago. Memorials to Christ Community Church for missions have been suggested.
