Timothy Mayfield

Timothy Lee Mayfield, 64, of Escondido, CA, and who was raised in Zion, IL, went to be with his Lord on September 5, 2012 Tim was born November 18, 1947, in South Carolina. He graduated from Zion-Benton Township High School in 1965 and majored in voice and music at Moody Bible Institute in Chicago. Tim received a B.A. Degree in history from the University of Illinois (Chicago Circle) and a M.A. Degree in voice from Roosevelt University. A gifted basketball player, Tim traveled overseas during these years playing for Venture for Victory, sharing his Christian testimony during half time of games. He married Theo "Teddy" Ekstrom in 1969. They lived in Chicago right after marriage and Tim wrote for United Press International in the sports department. With a heart devoted to missions, Tim and Teddy served for two years in Japan. He used his musical gifts to serve as a worship and music Pastor at Edina Baptist Church, Edina, MN, Skyline Wesleyan Church in El Cajon, CA, Arvada Covenant Church in Arvada, CO, and for the past twenty years at Emmanuel Faith Church in Escondido, CA. Other musical pursuits included recording demos and composing for Hope Publishing Company and Shawnee Press; singing on the television program, Day of Discovery and with the Sixteen Singing Men. He often sang the national anthem at San Diego Padres games. Tim was honored to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award from MusiCalfornia. Survivors include his wife, Teddy; children, Toby Mayfield and Tracy (Jason) Young; grandchildren, Sophia, Olivia and Ariana; sister, Marcia (Mark) Twadell; sisters-in-law, Diane Mayfield and Linda Peck; mother-in-law, Grace Ekstrom, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Willis and Edith Mayfield; brother, Larry Mayfield; and father-in-law, John Ekstrom. A Memorial Service was held in September at Emmanuel Faith Church in Escondido, CA.
