Truman Jennings Prewitt, known for his smile, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2024. Born and raised in the coal mining town of Benham, Kentucky, Truman carried the values of hard work, humility, and kindness with him throughout his life.
A proud Navy veteran, Truman honorably served his country aboard the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk during the Vietnam War. His service was a testament to his bravery and dedication to the nation he loved.
After his military service, Truman enjoyed a long and successful career at Abbott Laboratories, known as “Smiley”; he retired after 35 years of dedicated service. His strong work ethic and friendly demeanor earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues.
Truman’s faith was the cornerstone of his life. He was an active member and beloved Deacon at Trinity Christian Center in Zion for many years. Known for his kindness, wisdom, and infectious smile, Truman brought light and joy to his church family and community.
Truman is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia Prewitt; his son, Truman "TJ" Prewitt and his wife Faith; his daughter, Christy Gibbs and Son-in-Law, Daniel, and their four kids; Lincoln, Piper, Bronson, and Vaughn. Along with his two beloved sisters, Pat and Sue. His family and friends will forever cherish the memories of his generosity, faith, and unwavering love.
Visitation will be held at Trinity Christian Center in Zion on Saturday, January 4, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a service. Truman will be laid to rest at Warren Cemetery.
Truman will be remembered for sharing the love of Jesus or trying to make you smile.
Rest in peace, you will be missed.
