Urban M. Hunt, 79, of Zion, Illinois, died on Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at the home of his daughter in Cottage Grove, Minnesota.
Urban was born February 23, 1931 in Zion and lived in Zion most of his life. He was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict having served with the United States Army. He owned and operated Hunt Plastering of Zion and as a general contractor built many homes in the area. He was a lifetime member of the Zion-Benton Township High School Booster Club. Urban was also a longtime Colt League baseball coach in this area, coaching teams to the Colt League World Series three times. For the last twelve years he has had the pleasure to serve as an usher at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
Survivors include his children, Daniel Hunt of Winthrop Harbor, Deidre (Keith) Murphy of Cottage Grove, Minnesota, Dennis (Rena') Hunt of Maplewood, Minnesota, Denean (Richard) Solomon of Elkhart, Indiana and Dori (Matthew) Childs of Toccoa, Georgia; a cousin who was like a son, Paul (Pamela) Olson of North Oaks, Minnesota; sixteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Miriam (Glenn) Musselman of Zion and Alice (Skip) Kinsman of Elkhart, Indiana; a sister-in-law, Isabel Hunt of Aurora, Missouri; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Regena; one brother, Vernon; and his parents, Ellis and Alice Hunt.
Visitation will be Sunday, June 20, 2010, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 21st, at 10:00 a.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Andrews officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Memorial donations to Big Sandy Camp, 52511 185th Place, McGregor, Minnesota 55760 have been suggested.
