Viola A. "Vicky" Reidel, 93, of Beach Park, Illinois left for her final resting place on Thursday, February 6, 2014.
She was born to Mike and Marie (Schutz) Wirtz at the family home and farm in Ivanhoe, Illinois October 4, 1920. She graduated from Libertyville Township High School in 1938. The caption in her high school year book, The Nautilus, stated "Quiet and unassuming, but always on the job". Indeed Vicky led her life in a quiet and unassuming way that was completely dedicated to her family. She married Lowell "Bill" Reidel on September 28, 1940. They were married 49 years and 5 months. Together they raised two sons, Bill (Jean) Reidel and Roy (Barbara) Reidel. They were blessed with eight grandchildren: Debbie, Leslie, John, Wendy, Matt, Hope, Jason and Adam, thirteen great- grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. Vicky is also survived by 11 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Mike and Marie Wirtz, her husband Bill, her sister and brother in law Joe and Dorothy Liesenfelt, a grandson, Jeff Paquin and great great grandson Logan Zelen.
Vicky worked for Welcome Wagon International for 42 years. She retired at the age of 75 after having welcomed over 24,000 new residents to various areas in Lake County, Illinois. She loved her work as a Welcome Wagon Hostess where it was her responsibility to sell sponsors on the idea of contributing information and gifts for her to use in welcoming new arrivals to the Lake Villa, Grayslake, Lindenhurst, Wildwood and other Lake County communities. Indeed, she forged many acquaintances and friendships during the many calls she made on newcomers. One of her dearest friendships was forged when she welcomed Stella and Dale Grim to Wildwood some thirty five years ago.
Vicky enjoyed traveling, dancing the polka as often as possible, or playing cards at the Park Place Senior Center in Waukegan and family gatherings. She was very independent most of her life. When that independence waned she cherished her time in her home with her caregivers, John and Maria Pyrak and Hope Ligenza Gray. When she needed more intensive care she was fortunate to become a permanent resident of Rolling Hills Manor in Zion, Illinois where she received excellent care from a conscientious and caring staff of professionals.
A Visitation will be held Friday, February 21, 2014 from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. at CONGODN FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL.
