Walter Reo Hansford, 89, of Winthrop Harbor, IL died on Friday, July 24, 2015 at Midwest Palliative and Hospice Care Center in Glenview, IL.
He was born April 4, 1926 in Flint, MI. He served with the United States Army Field Artillery in the mountains of Italy in the European Theater during World War II. After his discharge from the Army he married Laurel Knapp of Winthrop Harbor on August 21, 1948 at the Winthrop Harbor United Methodist Church and together they lived in Winthrop Harbor. He retired from NOSCO in Waukegan after 40 years. He was a member and Past Master of Milburn Masonic Lodge #127 A.F & A.M., and he was a member of the Craftsman Club through NOSCO.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Laurel; children Stephen (Kate) Hansford, Kimberly (Fiancé Tom) Hansford, Kristie Hansford, and Valerie (Keith) Rummel all of Winthrop Harbor, IL; sister-in-law Diane Hansford of Traverse City, MI; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers Gale (late Margaret) Hansford and Ross Hansford; and his father and mother Albert and Alice Hansford.
Visitation will be Saturday, August 1, 2015, from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL. A memorial service with Masonic rites and military honors will follow at 4:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Chaplain Cheri Tuccy officiating. Memorial donations to Midwest Palliative and Hospice Care Center, 2050 Claire Court, Glenview, IL 60025 has been suggested.
