Walter Schneider

1923 — August 17, 2010

Walter H. Schneider 87, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2010 after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. He was born on July 5, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Herman and Anna Schneider. He served in the United States Navy during World War II as a radio man, and after his discharge he attended the University of Illinois, College of Dentistry, where he graduated in 1951 and practiced his profession in Zion and Beach Park with his wife Marilynn who also graduated from the University of Illinois, College of Dentistry. He and his wife retired from their dental practices after 37 years, in 1988. Walter was a member of the Chicago Dental Society and the Illinois State Dental Society. He loved boating and spent many summers at the Kenosha and Winthrop Harbor Marinas enjoying boating on Lake Michigan. He was an artist and designed and created many stained glass windows for his home and for his friend's homes. He loved his home and gardens and cared for them meticulously. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Marilynn, his children Scott W. Schneider of Kennerdell, Pa., and Gregory J. Schneider and his special friend Debbie Bokan of Zion, his brother-in-law, Dr. Joseph C. Novak (Lillian) and nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother Robert and sisters Clair and Elle. Visitation will be Monday, August 23, 2010, from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, Illinois, where a funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m., Pastor Karen Brown of Beach Community Church officiating. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion.
