Walter R. (Wally) Seegren, 81, passed away peacefully Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan. He was born August 6, 1928 in Chicago to Swedish immigrant parents. A graduate of Senn High School, he met Eleanor Stohl, who became his wife of 58 years, at Wright Junior College. He began designing and building homes in 1950 but was soon drafted into the Army to serve in Korea. In 1956 Wally and Eleanor moved to Winthrop Harbor, where he continued his career by building homes along Lake Michigan. Next came a series of apartment buildings and complexes along Sunset and Golf Roads in Waukegan, as well as many custom homes and office buildings. Additional projects included Sunset House Restaurant, Oakwood Racquet Club and Bonnie Brook Baptist Church, of which Wally and Eleanor were founding members. During later years, he was a commercial Realtor with Century 21-Maki United, and also designed and built custom room additions, decks and gazebos. He was an avid sportsman who played softball in Waukegan church leagues and basketball at the YMCA, enjoyed golf, bowling and fishing and was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan. Wally was a faithful Christian husband, father, businessman and friend to so many in the Chicago and Lake County areas. Survivors include his wife, Eleanor; son Kenneth (Janet); daughter Kristina; son Randall; and many loving relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Adolph and Norman. Visitation: Friday, August 6th, 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. and Saturday, August 7th, 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. A Celebration of his life: 11:00 a.m. Saturday. Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion.
