A Lifetime Zion resident, Wayne Pierson, died surrounded by his family on Sunday, July 17, 2016. He was called home to our Lord just one week after suffering a stroke. Born May 14, 1934 to Fred and Hilda Pierson, Wayne was a memorable character known for his piercing blue eyes, passion for hunting and immeasurable pride for his children and grandchildren. Wayne’s only regret would have been that he was not able to vote for Trump.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Shirlee Solberg; his children, Ronda Pierson of Palm Beach, FL; Philip Pierson (Denise) of Kenosha, WI; Tom Pierson (Meganne) of Bristol, WI, and Lana Stanich (Jeff Jr.) of Pleasant Prairie, WI; 10 grandchildren; brother Wesley Pierson of Davenport, IA; Mary Davis Weil, the mother of his children; as well as his extended stepchildren and step grandchildren.
Wayne was an all-around athlete and avid lifelong pheasant hunter. Selling his business, “Pierson Heating and Cooling” after 30 years, he briefly retired to run a hunting lodge in Massena, IA before returning to spend his last two decades as a permanent fixture at Precision Roofing where he proudly worked for his son Tom Pierson until one week before his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings Don Pierson and Lloyd Pierson, Jean Freeman and Marian Lindsey; and his infant granddaughter, Sarah Pierson.
The family will receive guests at North Prairie United Methodist Church at 5000 9th Street, Winthrop Harbor, IL from 4-6 pm on Friday, July 29. A memorial service will follow at 6pm. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
