William Roy, 93, of Beach Park, IL. died Friday, September 23, 2016 at home.
Bill was born July 8, 1923 in Oakland, CA. and resided in Beach Park. He grew up in Zion and attended Zion High School. Bill studied drums with legends Bob Tilles, Jose Betan Court and Roy Knapp. He was a member of the Jerry Mumford Orchestra, The Owen Hill Trio. He was a union musician who played drums up to the age of 90 throughout the Chicago area. Bill was a Union Electrician by trade with local 150 of Waukegan. Hard work, honesty and family is what was important to Bill. He was a great Dad leaving so many memories of good times. His faithful and loving dog Luke, a black lab was Bill’s special friend who was always by his side. Many knew them as they went everywhere together. Bill had a quick wit and never at loss for a joke, loved nature, an avid fan of the Hawks and in his younger days played goalie. He served with the United States Navy with a honorable discharge.
Survivors include his five children, Sallie Boi, Virginia Pearson, William D. Roy, David Roy and Steven Roy; 17 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and sister, Alison King of Zion, IL.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Pavlik Roy; and parents, Robert and Henrietta Roy.
A memorial visitation will take place Friday, October 14, 2016 from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL.
