William Sandefur

1930 — January 27, 2008

William Arch Sandefur of Beach Park, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2008 at Rolling Hills Manor. William was born March 20, 1930 the only child of Bondine Robinson and Parl Imogien in Sarasota, Florida. At an early age his family moved to Waukegan where William, known as "W.A." attended school, graduating from Waukegan Township High School. He married Janice Ilene Shafer on February 13, 1954. William and Janice settled in Winthrop Harbor and were blessed with three daughters. To support his growing family William worked for Commonwealth Edison, where he was known as "Archie" retiring in 1987 after 34 years of service. During that time, he also held various part-time positions such as an attendant at Norm's Citgo and a part-time police officer for the Village of Winthorp Harbor. William had many interests. Early on he was involved in the C.B. radio community where he was known as "Flattop". Later, he and Janice developed a love for country western dancing, traveling as far as Texas to dance. This led to an interest in music and playing the bass guitar. William loved getting up in front of a faithful audience at Nationwide Electronics with the other members of the "Country Music Jamboree". He also enjoyed golfing and was a regular at the greens at Shiloh Park Golf Course and in the Senior's League. William is survived by his daughters, Cynthia (Harvey) Holland of Beach Park, Kimberlee Sue of Centrailia, IL and Nancy Jean of Zion; three grandson, John Holland, James Gumm and Andrew Holland; one granddaughter, Tami Gumm; and two great-grandsons, Anthony Jr. and Vincent Angeloff. He also leaves behind a group of life-long- friends who enjoyed roller skating, playing cards, camping and boating. He was preceded in death by his parents in 1978; his wife in 2007; and one granddaughter, Janice Gumm in 1998. Visitation will be Thursday, January 31, 2008 form 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor John Wiziarde of Christ Community Church officiating. Private interment will be held later at Oakdale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Murray Developmental Center, home to Kimberlee for many years.
