Our beloved William H. Theehs Jr., a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, was called home to be with the Lord on March 16, 2025, at the age of 88. His legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering faith will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
Born in Chicago on November 16, 1936, and later settling in Waukegan, Will spent his life in the community he loved. There, he raised his family and became a cornerstone of the area, deeply committed to his faith and the growth of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he dedicated much of his time and energy.
Will was a friend to all, known for his warm smile, generous spirit, and willingness to lend a helping hand. A gifted handyman, he could fix anything, no matter the challenge.
He earned his Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Western Illinois University and proudly served his community for 23 years with the Waukegan Police Department, retiring as Deputy Chief. Will also served in the Marine Corps Reserves from 1959 to 1965 and was an active member of the Lake County Detachment 801 of the Marine Corps League.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret of 62 years, his son Greg (Wendy) of Algonquin, Illinois, his daughter Lynn (Scott) Atherley of Bangor, Maine; his five grandchildren Kevin and Andrew Theehs and Carson (Meghan), Teagan and Kyelin Atherley; his great-grandchildren, Ivy and Tilly Atherley; his sister Marion Long of Tennessee; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Mary and Ken Cross; and nieces Cheryl (Dave) Wollert, Eloise Pierson and nephew Charles (Deborah) Long. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Mildred Theehs.
His legacy will live on in the lives he touched, and his memory will be cherished by his family, friends, and community.
Visitation will take place Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church,1310 N. Frolic Ave., Waukegan, Illinois, from 10 to 11 a.m. with a funeral service beginning at 11 a.m.
