Wim Dykshoorn, 89, of Kenosha, WI, died on Sunday, June 28, 2015, at home in Kenosha, with his family by his side.
Wim Dykshoorn was born August 8, 1925, in The Hague, Netherlands, where he served in the Royal Dutch Air Force. He met Marian Arlene Van Zee (from Kalamazoo, Michigan) in the Netherlands, where she was traveling on vacation, in the summer of 1950. In 1951 he emigrated to the United States and was united in marriage to Marian on October 19, 1951. He was employed by Corning Glass Works and since 1974 by Abbott Laboratories where he retired in 1989. Wim was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Waukegan and Kenosha. He was a former member of the American Relay Radio League and was an active stamp collector.
Wim is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marian of Kenosha, WI; two daughters, Jan (Brian) Tjader of Zion, IL, and Martha Bosch of Hillsboro, OR; four granddaughters, Kristen (Tom) Hargett of Siloam Springs, AR, Kim (Brandon) Chesser of Zion, IL, Katie (Jacob) Clark of Winthrop Harbor, IL, and Karian Tjader of Dubai, UAE; eight great-grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew, Rebekah, and Jonathan Hargett, Jacob and Joshua Chesser, and Caleb and Levi Clark; and a nephew, Wim (Marianne) Rensen of the Netherlands.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willem and Catherina Dykshoorn; sister, Maria (Henk) Rensen; and nephew, Hans Rensen.
A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 3, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL. Friends may greet the family on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
