Fayrene Lundy Bruzek

Fayrene Lundy Bruzek, 89, passed away on September 15, 2022. She was born on December 10, 1932 to Marshall and Cora Cox in Marion County, Alabama.

Growing up on the farm, she was the oldest of eight children. After helping the family when her youngest sibling was born, she moved to Zion, Illinois in 1952. She married David Denton Lundy in 1953 and they lived in Winthrop Harbor, Illinois where they raised their family. She attended keypunch training school and worked for many years in data entry at American Hospital Supply Corporation. During these years she was an active member of the Church of God of Prophecy in Zion. In 1981 she married James Bruzek, and they spent 35 years together gardening, traveling, attending classical music concerts, and taking Jim’s vintage T-bird to car shows. They were active members of the First Presbyterian Church in Waukegan.

Fayrene is survived by her two daughters, Diane Neiweem of Green Oaks, Illinois, and Deborah (Richard) Leech of Waukesha, Wisconsin; five grandchildren, Cora Leech (Eric Lee), Andrew Leech, Benjamin Leech, James Neiweem, and Julia Neiweem; two great granddaughters, Yuna Lee and Yujin Lee; two sisters, Maylene Penrod and Brenda Hardison.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband James Bruzek; son-in-law Jeffrey Neiweem; and five siblings, Maxine Palmer, John Cox, Sandra Jean Stevens, Willadean Cox, and Gary Cox.

Visitation will be held on Monday, September 26, 2022 at 10:00 followed by a funeral service at 11:00 at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd, Zion, Illinois. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park.
