Obituary of Robert Bennett

Robert E. "Bob" Bennett, 81, of Winthrop Harbor, IL, passed away on May 12, 2014, at Vista Medical Center East, Waukegan, IL. He was born April 2, 1933, in Kenosha, WI, and graduated from Zion-Benton Township High School in 1951. Bob was former owner/operator of Bennett's Marathon Service Station in Winthrop Harbor. He served with the United States Army and was a member of Masonic Lodge #78 in Waukegan. Bob also was a member of North Prairie United Methodist Church in Winthrop Harbor. He enjoyed serving with the Shriner's in parades and traveling in his RV. Bob loved piloting his Cessna. He is survived by significant other, Marlene Kufel of Zion, IL; children, Mathew (Cheri Campbell) Bennett of Winthrop Harbor, IL, and Diane (Roger) Zeivel of Zion, IL; step-children, Debra Groff, Judith Whitlock, Vicki Kufel, and Michael Kufel; numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; sister, Barbara (Gerald) Litewski of Zion, IL; and many nieces and nephews and other family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mae; daughter, Dawn Bennett; brother, Alvin "Butch" Bennett; and father and mother, Lawrence and Ruby Bennett. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2014 at 7:30 p.m. at the North Prairie United Methodist Church, 5000 9th St., Zion, IL, with a Masonic Service at 7:00 p.m. Friends may greet the family on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service at the church.
