Obituary of John Scheve

John Ralph Scheve, 92, of Kenosha, WI and formerly of Waukegan, IL passed away May 14, 2014 with his family at his side. John, known as Ralph to many of his friends, was born April 12, 1922 in Zion, IL. He graduated from Waukegan Township High School in 1940, and was a member of the 50th class reunion committee in 1990. John was a millwright at Johnson Motors for 30 years, retiring in 1975. He then worked for Lake Forest Grade School District 67 in maintenance and carpentry. He retired in 1987. Ralph was the proud Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 8 for more than 15 years. He was chosen by the regional Boy Scout council to attend Philmont Scouting Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico in 1962. His wife and children were invited to attend with him, and it was a vacation that became a favorite family memory. In addition, he was a lifelong New York Yankees fan. Ralph married Anne Beverly Scheve on June 16, 1945, and they would have celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary next month. He is survived by his wife, Bev, of Kenosha, WI, his children, John Jr. (Judy) of Atlanta, GA, Susan (Jack) Vece of Waukegan, Thomas (Lisa) of Charlotte, NC, and Michael (Jody) of Charlotte, NC. John was proud of his 8 grandchildren, Chris (Chieko), Joel (Laurie) Vece, Jason, Timothy Vece MD (Lindsay Chase, MD), Kathleen (Chris) Cassata, Bradley, Carly and Kevin; and was delighted to have 4 great-grandchildren Chase and Joseph Scheve, John and Lily Vece. He also has many nieces and nephews who survive him. His parents, Ernest and Grace (Griffith) Scheve, and siblings Ernest, Ethel, Helen, Elsie, Betty, Lurene, and Donald preceded him in death. Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 20, 2014 from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL 60099. Services will be at Congdon Funeral Home on Wednesday, May 21, at 10:00 am, with Reverend Patrick Rugan of St. Dismas Church in Waukegan officiating. Interment will follow at North Shore Garden of Memories, 1801 Green Bay Road, North Chicago, IL 60064.
