Obituary of Juanita Birky

Birky, Juanita M. 90, of Zion, IL, passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2011, at Rolling Hills Manor in Zion, IL. Juanita was born March 13, 1921, in Jasper County, MO, to Claude and Nellie (Zornes) Lynch. She graduated from Wilson Grade School in Gurnee, JL, and Warren High School in 1938. On November 11, 1938, she married her late husband, Howard C. Birky at York House Church in Beach Park, IL. Juanita's work history includes Deepfreeze Refrigeration, Kroger Grocers, and the National Tea Company. She was a member of Christ Community Church in Zion, the Summer Nuts Camping Group, and the Lake County Promenaders Square Dancing Group. Juanita enjoyed boating, swimming, cross-country skiing, sewing, playing cards, and getting together with many friends. She traveled extensively and spent 18 years in the winter in Harlingen, Texas. Survivors include her daughters, Darlene A. "Dolly" Zeihen of Bristol, WI, and Linda Arron of Frenchtown, Montana; grandchildren, Michael Zeihen, Thomas, (Cathy) Zeihen, Ronald (Amy) Zeihen, Robert Zeihen, Michelle Fort, Cassandra (Paul) Pastell, David (Margie) DeBaufer, and Susan (Rob) Rosenlof; great-grandchildren, Joshua, Jake, Megan, Jessica, Mitchell, Beau, Christina, Shannon, and Alex; four great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Bonnie Birky of FL; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Howard Birky on April 2, 2008; her parents, brothers, Charles, Glenn, and Robert Lynch; sons-in-law Bernard J. Zeihen and Loren Arron; four brothers-in-law and four sisters-in-law. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Visitation will be Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested to Christ Community Church, 2500 Dowie Memorial Dr., Zion, IL 60099. The family expresses appreciation to Dr. David Engstrom and the staff at Rolling Hills Manor for their kind care of Juanita.
