Obituary of Norma Hanson

Norma Gail Hanson, 84, of Beach Park, IL, died Sunday, August 3, 2008 at Rolling Hills Manor in Zion, IL. Norma was born September 17, 1923, in Waukon, IA. Norma graduated from Waukon High School Class of 1941. She later moved to Waukegan, IL and worked for several years in the Photo Shop at Great Lakes Naval Training Center. Norma then married her childhood sweetheart, Leonard Hanson, following his service in the United States Army during World War ll and were married for 60 years. Norma retired form Great Lakes Naval Training Center with almost 30 years of service. She held various part-time jobs over the years and was an avid garage sale hostess during the summer months. She and Leonard were long standing members of Immanuel Baptist Church in Waukegan and later in Gurnee, IL. Norma was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be missed dearly by those that loved her. Survivors include her children, Patricia Hanson of Beach Park, IL, Debi (Brad) Graves of Winthrop Harbor, IL and Tim (Liz) Hanson of Rockford, IL; 12 grandchildren, Stephanie Varone, Sten Leafblad, Celeste Peterson, Amber Peterson, Jessica Anderson, Britni Peterson, Tara Adams-Hanson, Candice Adams, Crystal Lupi, Tiffani Graves, Tim Hanson, Jr., and Katherine Hanson; nine great-grandchildren, Brennen, Alyssa and Sean Varone, Carsten Shanahan-Leafblad, Kaysey Adams, Kody Anderson, Braydin Lupi, Nixon Anderson and Bella Adams; and by her sister, Dorothy Gelo of Postville, IA. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Leonard; and her parents, Guy and Violet Barr of Postville, IA. A memorial visitation will be held Wednesday, August 6, 2008 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd. Zion, IL. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101.
