Obituary of Frances McElmurry

Frances McElmurry, 91 of Zion, died on Monday, August 18, 2008, at Lake Forest Hospital. Frances was born June 27, 1917, in Grant County, WI and came to Zion in 1937. She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church and active in the United Methodist Women. She was an avid homemaker and gardener and a member of the Illinois Dunesland Garden Club and the Zion-Benton American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include her husband of over 71 years, Jack W. McElmurry; children, Beverly (William Hosken) McElmurry of Zion, Kathleen (Eddie Waddle) McElmurry of Zion and Karilyn (Daniel) Rushforth of Winthrop Harbor; her daughter-in-law, Eva McElmurry of Zion; 13 grandchildren, Terence (Margaret) Hosken, Chip (Gabrielle Devlin) Hosken, Jodi (Albert) Petree, Jacquelyn (John) Mallek, Leslie Hagen, Lori (Rob) Marabella, Justin Evans, Amanda Evans, Kara Evans, Scott Waddle, John (Michelle) Waddle, Courtney Rushforth and Neal Rushforth; 11 great-grandchildren, Cory, Jessy, Jake, Karleigh, Kelsi, Kayla, Jaxson, Jack, Zach, Lindsey and Ryan; and one brother, Loren "Bud" Smith of Thorp, WI. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Nancy McElmurry; her son, Jack McElmurry; brothers, Lawrence, Leonard, Lee, Earl and Raymond Smith; one sister, Helen Drehmel; and her parents, Francis and Ethel Smith. Visitation will be Thursday, August 21, 2008, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 22nd, at 10:30 a.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church, 2935 Sheridan Road, Zion, with Rev. Paul Gerardy officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Memorial donations to a charity of your choice, or Memorial United Methodist Church have been suggested.
