Obituary of Albert Cvetnick

Albert "Al" Cvetnick, 85, of Waukegan, formerly of North Chicago, died on Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at home, while peacefully watching his beloved Chicago Cubs. Al was born October 21, 1922, in Waukegan, and married the love of his life, Dorothy Kink on September 14, 1946, at Mother of God Church in Waukegan. He was a member of Our Lady of Humility Church in Beach Park. Al was employed by the Waukegan Tannery for 35 years, (until the company closed) and was retired from the North Shore Sanitary District in 1989 after 15 years of service. He was a United States Army Veteran of World War II, and also a member of the SNPJ Society #14 in Waukegan. Al served as a caregiver for Dorothy in these last years, and dearly loved his feathered friends and four legged family members.(He also loved to feed wildlife.) He was proud of his Slovenian heritage and enjoyed making potica during the holidays. One of his favorite past times was watching "Polka Joe" on television. Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Dorothy; daughters, Dorothy "Dee" (Donald) Stratmoen of Zion, Linda Timm of Park City, IL, and Alene "Al" (Tom) Backis of Beach Park, IL; five grandchildren, Lisa Timm, Katrina Kutz, Amanda Stafford, Anthony "Tony" Timm, and Michael Stratmoen; seven great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, John (Rita) Kink of Park City, IL; special "adopted" children, Teri Usher of FL, and Aaron Escamilla of TX; numerous God-Children and a "special" God-Child, Carol Abraham (and her family) of Winthrop Harbor, IL.; nieces and a nephew, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Frank and Johanna Cvetnick; brother, Frank Cvetnick; sister-in-law, Helen Cvetnick; grandson, Glen Albert Timm; sister, Amelia Cvetnick; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Mary Kink. Visitation will be Friday, September 5, 2008, from5:00-8:00 p.m at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. , at Our Lady of Humility Church, 10655 W. Wadsworth Rd., Beach Park. Interment will be private for the family. Memorial donations are suggested to either, Our Lady of Humility Church or to Save-A-Pet.
