Obituary of Rufus Rich

Rufus (Glenn) Rich, 80, of Zion, IL. Passed away early Wednesday morning Sept. 3rd. Glenn as he was known is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dolores (Bourdeau), his son Tom, daughter Sheryl (Jamie) Farrell, and his beloved grandsons Shane, and Cody. Glenn along with his wife spent many hours watching Shane excel at playing hockey, and Cody playing baseball, one of Glenn's favorite sports, being a Cubs fan his whole life and a respected baseball player himself. A graduate of Zion-Benton, he lettered in football, basketball and baseball. Sports played an important part of Glenn's early life, being a Jr. Champion at Ping Pong, playing on several Championship Lake Co. baseball and softball teams. Culminating in the 60's being on the Illinois State Softball Championship team, and representing at the World Series of Softball held in New York State. Glenn was also a champion bowler, in many leagues throughout Lake Co. "Glenn was the ultimate team-mate that you would want on your team." Said Ace Williams, Glenn's long time best friend and team-mate. Glenn served his country as an M.P. stationed in France, during World War II. He talked often of guarding the mail trains between Paris and Frankfort. "Leaving through the Gare du Nord" Working at the then American Motors (Chrysler) Glenn worked 48 years before retiring. He is also survived, by two brothers Keith (Myrtle) and John (Judy) and one sister Joyce Mielke. His brother and sisters in law Don (Sharon) Bourdeau, Audrey (Virgil) Ford, along with many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his best friend Forrest (Ace) Williams and his wife Lenore. He was preceded by a brother Howard Miller, and his parents Anne and Rufus Rich. Visitation will be Monday, September 8, at the Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd, Zion; at 9:00 a.m. with a service to follow at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park in Zion.
