Obituary of William Powell

William R. Powell, 90, of Zion, died on Saturday, November 1, 2008, at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan. William was born June 6, 1918 in Fulton, Mississippi and came to Zion in 1944. He retired from Civil Service at Great Lakes. Survivors include his children, Nell (Gene) Johnson of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, June (Eugene) Russell of Winthrop Harbor, Helen (Jerry) Qualls of Vernon Hills, Eddie Powell of Beach Park and Faye (Mike) Mares of Beach Park; eleven grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Kathleen Peoples of Fulton, Mississippi and Novia Pendleton of Amory, Mississippi. He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma, in 1993; three brothers, Glen, Roy and Charles Powell; two sisters, Donna Malone and Ruby Hudson; and his parents, Richard and Addie Powell. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 5, 2008, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Interment will be at Northshore Garden of Memories, North Chicago.
