Obituary of Harley Palmer

Harley W. Palmer, 80, of Winthrop Harbor, Illinois, died on Thursday, November 6, 2008 at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan. Harley was born September 16, 1928 in Waukegan and remained in the area his entire life. He served his country in the United States Army from 1952 to 1954 and was a member of Christ Community Church of Zion. Harley owned and operated NAPA Auto Parts stores in Waukegan and Zion for 35 years and was still involved in the business. He was also a long time member of Zion-Benton Moose. Harley loved his family and his extended family and was dedicated to his work. His greatest joy was giving to others and making sure everyone had what they needed to enjoy life. He enjoyed a good laugh and big family gatherings. He was also a collector of many things, including miniature NAPA cars and trucks, coins, and anything else that peaked his interest. He was loving and giving to all, especially his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Anne; one son, Mark (Clare) Palmer of Winthrop Harbor; one daughter, Lynda Bostick of Beach Park; three grandsons, Daniel and David Palmer and Chaz Bostick; two sisters, Joyce Opal of Beach Park and Judi Adams of Arizona; and one brother, Bill (MaryLu) Palmer of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Lincoln and Theal Palmer. Visitation will be Sunday, November 9, 2008, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 10th, at 1:30 p.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home with Pastor Jon Wiziarde of Christ Community Church officiating. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Memorial donations to either Christ Community Church, or, Camp Zion have been suggested.
