Dale Gash unexpectedly passed away on December 2 at the age of 86. He was born on October 27, 1922 in Enola, AR and came to Zion in 1946. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a Veteran of WWII. He belonged to VFW Post 7448, member of the Zion Benton Moose and was a Post President of the Winthrop Harbor Lions Club. Over the years Dale loved being with friends, traveling, golfing, playing cards, bowling and fishing. He had a great sense of humor, loved living life to the fullest while refusing to slow down.
He is survived by his loving companion, Dorothy Roberts; daughter, Leslie Greeno (Norm Niemo); grandson, Shannon (Amy) Koskinen; granddaughter, Chelly Massari; four great-grandchildren, Corey Fox, Aliyah Massari, Jakob Dale Koskinen and Joshua Koskinen; a daughter like niece, Katie (Greg) Iffrig; and many dearly loved nieces, nephews, family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Helen Lauritzen Gash; parents, Aaron Otis and Laura Ann Gash; five brothers, Arlin C. Gash, Arlis Sherrill Gash, Obie Gash, Arvel Otis Gash and Bolin E. Gash; and three sisters, Adna E. Gash Wiggington, Vertis E. Gash McAlister, and Elsie Pearl Gash Tipton.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 7, 2008, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 8th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion.
