Thomas Joseph McMahon Sr., 85, of Pleasant Prairie, WI, formerly of Waukegan, died on Wednesday, April 29, 2009 at Brookside Care Center in Kenosha, WI.
He was born April 2, 1924 in Waukegan and resided there until he moved to Pleasant Prairie in 2007. Thomas married the love of his life, Beverley Jean Rause on September 14, 1943 in Plymouth, RI before returning to active duty in the United States Navy, SeaBee Battalions 98th and 108th. Thomas was very proud of his military duty having fought in the battle of Normady. His service took him to France, Scotland and the Philippines. He attended High Schools in Pensacola, Florida and Waukegan, IL. Thomas was an avid outdoors man who loved the Northwoods. The love of his family and friends brought the most joy of his life. Thomas was employed at Coral Chemical Company in Waukegan and Chemical Ways of Lake Bluff, IL as an industrial chemical salesman. Tom enjoyed power boating with his wife and was a member of the Waukegan Yacht Club. Tom also was a member of Tebala Temple of Rockford, IL, and he was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed time hunting and fishing with his dear friends and family.
Survivors include his daughter, Patricia (Steven) Carrier of Pleasant Prairie; grandchildren, Thomas (Veronica) McMahon III, Sarah McMahon and Breanne Carrier; great-granddaughters, Amelia and Violet McMahon; one brother-in-law, Jack Smith; his niece, Jackie (George) Couvall; and his brother, Robert McMahon. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Beverley Rause McMahon; his son, Thomas McMahon Jr.; granddaughter, Erin Jean Carrier; two sisters, Ginny Smith and Geraldine McMahon; and his uncle Paul and aunt Nellie Cole who raised Tom like their own son.
Visitation will be Tuesday, May 5, 2009, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 6th, at 10:30 a.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home. Interment with military honors will follow at Northshore Garden of Memories, North Chicago.
