Alice Marie McCreary May 25, 1920 - July 10, 2009 Alice Marie McCreary nee Dumbauld, the daughter of Albert and Winona Dumbauld nee Hoylman was born in Oakwood, MO and promoted to glory on July 10, 2009 at her home in Zion, IL. Her nuclear family consisted of her parents (deceased), sister Anna Mae Able nee Dumbauld (deceased) and foster sister Josephine Moore nee Petty. Alice accepted the Lord in 1942 while living in Washington, D.C. and was baptized in the Potomac River. She was a charter member of Fairview Christian Church near Festus, Mo which is built on property donated by her father and mother. Many lives were touched by her life and ministries when she was able to be active. After many years and the replacement of activity with infirmity, she carried on a card ministry with over 200 people that she sent birthday, encouragement, get well and thinking of you cards. Alice showed unusual and varied talents through out her life. When 16 years old she won a talent show, singing and playing guitar at a barn dance and was to appear on KMOX radio in St. Louis the Saturday that instead became her wedding day to Stuart Nelson McCreary on October 31, 1936. Her talents included singing, dancing, needlework, gardening, cooking oil painting, crocheting, quilting, fishing, camping and travel. As a mother, she taught with love and discipline. She placed her loving arms around all who came into her family and life. Alice married Stuart Nelson McCreary on October 31, 1936 and they had six sons, Stuart Allen, Stanley Howard, Neal Patrick (deceased), Michael Nelson, Dennis Eugene and Timothy Arnold McCreary. She is survived by her adoring husband of 72 years, five loving and dedicated sons, a loving foster sister and a beautiful collage of over 100 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great- grandchildren as well as a very large extended family. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL, with Pastor Dennis Corley of North Point Community Church of Winthrop Harbor, officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Visitation will be Monday, July 13, 2009 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
