Obituary of Gordon King

Gordon Andrew King "Gordy" Gordon Andrew "Gordy" King, 47, of Zion, IL, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan. Gordy was born August 29, 1961, in Zion and was a 1979 graduate of Zion-Benton Township High School. He married Lerita Richards on January 21, 1995 in Zion. Gordy came to trust in the Lord and Savior as a youngster while attending Grace Missionary Church in Zion. He was employed for the Zion Park District for 30 years, most recently as an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent for the Sheperd's Crook Golf Course. Gordy enjoyed playing golf and was an avid Cubs fan. He was a loving son, husband and step-father, who approached his battle with cancer with grace, dignity, and courage. Survivors include his wife of 14 years, Lerita King; step-children, Ryan and Mark Cox, both of Zion; father and mother, Chuck and Alison King of Zion; brother, Robin (Lynn) King of Kingsford, MI; father and mother-in-law, C. Nathan and Jane Richards of Zion; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and other close relatives. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Missionary Church, 1415 27th Street, Zion, with Pastor Doug Carlson, officiating. Entombment will follow at Warren Cemetery, Gurnee, IL. Visitation will be Friday, July 17, 2009, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL. Memorial donations are suggested to the Grace Missionary Church. The family would like to thank the staff at Vista Medical Center East for their care and compassion. Also thanks to Dr. Kapadia, Dr. Mehta, Dr. Bamrolia and the entire staff.
