Obituary of Walter Pieniazek

Walter Joseph Pieniazek Sr., 86, of Zion, IL died on Thursday, July 23, 2009 at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan, IL. Walter was born June 25, 1923 in Steubenville, OH. He retired in 1988 from Zion-Benton Township High School. Walter served with the United States Navy during World War II in both the invasion of North Africa and D-Day. Survivors include his loving wife, Charlotte, whom he married on September 2, 1950 in Waukegan; two children, Walter Pieniazek Jr. of Illinois and Diane (James) Martin of Kentucky; three grandchildren, Jaime Pieniazek, Brandon (Julia) Martin and Shauna (Brian) Haske; two great-grandchildren, Tegan and Braden Haske; siblings, John (Mary) Pieniazek of California, James (Ethel) Pieniazek of Ohio, Severine (Robert) Grant of Ohio and Suzanne (Jon) Grubbs of Ohio; and one special nephew, Mark Pieniazek. He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew Pieniazek; his mother, Stella Mizicka; and one brother, Frank Pieniazek. Services will be private for the family.
