Betty Hough

Obituary of Betty Hough

To bring delight to Jesus, her Savior and Lord, and to every soul she encountered, was the ultimate joy for Betty Hough who passed away early Monday morning, 16 April 2012 , in Colorado Springs, CO. She was 80 years old. For all who knew her, it was her sparkling smile, her captivating invitation to engage, if even for a moment, all the warmth and personality she could bring to bear. Her joy for life, for fun and laughter; her deep, intense, and intimate relationship with Jesus Christ; and her undying faithfulness to friends and family, marked her as one who brought a special delight to each person with whom she spoke. Betty was born in Pretty Rock, ND August 21 1931 and lived there, as well as in Leith, ND, until the untimely death of her father. Her mother eventually moved her family of three boys and three girls to North Chicago in search of better job opportunities. Betty also lived in Waukegan and Zion before marrying Carl Hough of Zion. Betty graduated from Waukegan High School in 1951. She and Carl made their home in Beach Park until their two children, Sandra and Steve, had graduated high school, finished college, and married. Upon Carl's retirement in 1989, they moved to New Port Richey, FL and lived along the water's edge. After the great storm of 1993 flooded their home, they moved further inland, to Port Richey, FL. In 2010, they moved to their current home in Colorado Springs. Betty was a prayer warrior, having joined numerous prayer groups in each place she lived, to further the cause of Christ in her home, her church, her city, and the world. She attended Grace Missionary Church and Christian Catholic Church while living in the Zion area. While in Florida, she faithfully attended First Baptist Church in New Port Richey and, after moving to Port Richey, she attended First United Methodist Church. Having suffered intense foot, knee, and hip pain for years, we, her family, rejoice that, today, Betty is dancing in heaven in the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ, pain free and loving every second. She leaves behind her husband of 61 years, Carl, still living in Colorado Springs, her oldest child Sandra, now living in Washington, PA, and her youngest, Steve, who resides in Colorado Springs, CO. In addition, two siblings remain living, her older sister Irene , her younger sister, Marlis, and 2 granddaughters, Katherine and Rachel. Her mother, Myrtle Schmitz, and three brothers, Marvin, Clarence, and Dale precede her in death. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, April 23, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion, IL. Visitation will be Sunday, April 22, from 6:00-8:00 p.m at the funeral home. Meanwhile, freed from her earthly body, Betty has begun her long-anticipated journey into eternity, in heaven, there to serve and praise and worship her God and Redeemer, and to await the joyous reunion of her family and friends.
