Obituary of Dean Granger

Dean Granger "Dino" Dean "Dino" Granger, 75, of Waukegan, died on Sunday, August 30, 2009, at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan. Dean was born January 20, 1934, in Waukegan and was a 1951 graduate of Waukegan Township High School. He retired from U.S. Steel in 1979 after 30 years of employment and then from the City of Waukegan Public Works Department in 1999 after 17 years of employment. Dean was a former Secretary of the American Steel Workers Club. He was heavily involved with Waukegan Youth Baseball; as a past President of the Waukegan Pony League and as a youth baseball coach at all levels. He was also a member of the Zion Moose#667. Dean was an avid golfer, and a St. Louis Cardinal and Green Bay Packer fan. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Katherine "Kay" Granger; son, Tom (Jennifer) Granger of Waukegan; daughter, Dina (Eli) Cruz of Waukegan; granddaughters, Amanda, Ashley, and Arin Granger; great-grandchildren, Jaedon and Kaylen Granger; brother, John (Isabel) Granger of Tucson, AZ; special cousin, Charlie (Janet) Cerk of Waukegan(and many other cousins); brother-in-law, Steve (Carol) Poulos of Waukegan; numerous nieces and nephews, and loyal companion, Tex. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy Granger; sister, Sharon Poulos; and niece, Valerie. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 4, 2009, from 6:00-9:00 p.m at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 5, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with Pastor Doug Carlson of Grace Missionary Church of Zion, officiating. Interment will follow at Highland Memorial Park, Libertyville. Memorial donations are suggested to the Orphans of the Storm Animal Shelter, 2200 Riverwoods Rd., Riverwoods, IL 60015 or a charity of your choice.
