Obituary of Betty Jasper

Betty Lou Jasper Betty Lou Jasper, of Zion, IL, (and recently of Terrace Nursing Home, Waukegan, IL) passed away on Monday, August 31, 2009. She was born January 1, 1913, in Holladay, TN, to Eph and Effie (nee Brown) Oxford, the seventh of nine children. She moved to Waukegan, IL, as a young woman where she became a cosmetologist. Betty Lou married John Colin Jasper (Jack) on March 17, 1941. In addition to being a homemaker, she was active in several area churches, volunteered frequently for the American Red Cross, and held active memberships in the Millburn Chapter #570 Order of Eastern Star, Waukegan Senior Friendship Club, AARP, Zion Senior Club, Waukegan Woman's Club, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, and Zion Goldinaires Club. Survivors include daughter, Jacqueline Virginia Jasper of Gurnee, IL; sister, Clara Ruth Horning of Zion, IL; niece, Jeanette (nee Stack) Cree of Waukegan, IL; very dear friend, Alvia Burleson of Kenosha, WI, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eph and Effie Oxford; brothers, John, Ed, Leon, and Bradley Oxford of the Camden, TN area; sisters, Sybil Laster and Opal Stack of Waukegan, IL, and Lucy King of Zion, IL. A Memorial Service and Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2009, from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church, 2935 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL. Interment arrangements are pending. Memorial donations are suggested to the Memorial United Methodist Church of Zion, IL or the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago, 2200 West Harrison, Chicago, IL 60612.
