Obituary of Dorothy Mitchen

Dorothy L. Mitchen Dorothy L. Mitchen, 85, of Pleasant Prairie, WI, died on Friday, September 4, 2009 at Grand Prairie Nursing Home in Pleasant Prairie. Dorothy was born May 30, 1924 in Pepin, WI was raised in Waukegan and has also lived in Beach Park, Winthrop Harbor and Ringgold, GA before moving to Pleasant Prairie in 1989. She had worked as a secretary for Johns-Manville in Waukegan and later as church secretary for St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Waukegan. She was a member of the Swedish Glee Club, was a chaperone for Luther League in Waukegan and she belonged to Gray Ladies. Dorothy enjoyed writing and authored two books in her lifetime. She also wrote various articles for newspapers and she enjoyed painting as a hobby. Survivors include her children, Joel Mitchen of Deerfield Beach, FL, Laurence (Marcia) Mitchen of Gurnee and Jacque (Joan) Mitchen of Monona, WI; ten grandchildren, Michael, Michelle, Corinne, Laurene, Sean, Joseph, Kathleen, Christopher, Marissa and Christopher; six great-grandchildren, Colin, Parker, Jessica, Casey, Tyler, Molly and one on the way; and one sister, Gloria Holub of Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph in 2001; one grandson, Eric in 2001; sisters, Jacqueline Olesak, Marsella Boller and Betty Haabauer; brother, Art Isaacson; and her mother, Goldeen Patraw Thornton. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 8, 2009, at 12:00 noon, at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, with Rev. Jeffrey Koth officiating. Entombment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Visitation will be Tuesday, September 8th, from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the Congdon Funeral Home. Memorial donations to American Heart Association have been suggested.
