Obituary of Lewis Butts

Lewis "Bill" William Butts, 79, of Lake Placid, Florida, and formerly of Zion, IL, died on Saturday, September 26, 2009, at Midwestern Regional Medical Center in Zion, IL. Bill was born on March 3, 1930, in Chicago, and married Janice Hackert on May 12, 1951, in Mundelein, IL. He was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church in Lake Placid, FL, and a former member of the similarly named church in Zion. Bill had been employed as District Claims Manager for AAA Chicago Motor Club in Waukegan, and as a manager for Zion Auto Body. He was a United States Army veteran and was actively involved in leadership with the Northeast Council of the Boy Scouts of America. While living in Lake Placid he volunteered with the Manna Ministries Food Pantry for 14 years and was chairman of the Pancake Breakfast Committee at Tropical Harbor Estates. Bill was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Janice; son, Jerry (Gail) Butts of Winthrop Harbor, IL; daughter, Joanne (Paul) Power of Littleton, CO; sons, Jon Brock of Gurnee, IL, James (Veronica) Butts of Pleasant Prairie, WI, and William (Yolanda) Butts of Galena, IL, eleven grandchildren; brother, David Butts of Walnut Creek, CA; sisters, Irene Cole and Eleanore Butts, both of Camarillo, CA; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Lewis and Anina Butts.. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, October 1, 2009, at 5:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL. Friends may greet the family on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
