Obituary of Donald Gaines

Donald L. Gaines Donald L. Gaines, 63, of Waukegan, died on Tuesday, November 24, at the V.A. Medical Center in North Chicago. Donald was born January 23, 1946, in Lancaster, Kentucky, and married Carol Patton on May 14, 1967, in North Vernon, Indiana. He was retired from the United States Navy and worked as an instructor for San Diego City College at the Great Lakes Naval Base. He served as State Commander for The Military Order of the Cooties and was also a member of the Fleet Reserve Association, the Gurnee American Legion and the Winthrop Harbor VFW. After retirement from the Navy he was also employed as a realtor for Century 21 Maki United in Waukegan. Don also belonged to the NRA. He was especially fond of collecting and working with automobiles. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Carol Gaines; son, Donald (Eling) Gaines II of Arlington, TN; daughter, Crystal (Scott) Campbell of Kenosha, WI; son, Donovan (Melissa) Gaines of Kenosha, WI; grandchildren, Chrystain, Donald Lee III, Brianna, Nicholis, Abagayle, Careressa, and Izabella; brothers, Paul (Deanna) Gaines of Danville, Indiana, and Jay (Karen) Gaines of Greenwood, Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Andrew and Amittie Gaines; brothers, Junior, Denver, and William Gaines; and two sisters. Visitation will be Monday, November 30, 2009, from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, IL. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, December 2, 2009, at Neal & Summers Mortuary in Martinsville, Indiana. Interment will follow at New South Park Cemetery, Martinsville, Indiana.
