Obituary of Robert Christian

Robert Louis Christian, 86, of Winthrop Harbor, IL, died on Saturday, January 23, 2010, at home surrounded by his family. Robert was born May 2, 1923, in Fulton, MS, and married Margaret Sturman in 1947. He was employed by AMC in Kenosha, WI, from 1946 until his retirement in1980. Robert belonged to the Church of Christ in Zion, IL, and was a volunteer firefighter with the Winthrop Harbor Fire Department from 1963-1975. He enjoyed traveling and camping and was a member of various camping clubs. Besides enjoying time with family and friends he was an avid NASCAR and Chicago Bears Fan. Robert's particular enjoyment was adoring and holding babies, whether his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, or others. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Margaret Christian; children, Linda (Calvin) Magee of Zion, IL, Karen(Kenneth) Hayes of Lawton, OK, Robert Allen (Irene) Christian of Trevor, WI, and Cheryl (Timothy) Hall of Winthrop Harbor, IL; grandchildren, Calvin Jr. and Christopher Magee, Jason and Jeremy Christian, Andrea Hauck, Timothy Hall Jr., and Tanya Gilbert; 17 great-grandchildren; nieces, Sandra Newton and Sherry Simon of FL; nephew, Mark Wheeler of FL; and brother-in-law, Sanders Wheeler of FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lundy and Vessie Christian; and a sister, Ruby Wheeler. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, January 27, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, with David Padfield of the Church of Christ of Zion, officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. Friends may greet the family on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
