Obituary of Edward Manoian

Edward "Minnow" Manoian, born August 1, 1910 in Marseilles, France, died on Tuesday, February 9, 2010, Zion, IL. Retired as a Lieutenant on the Waukegan Fire Department in 1960, after 20 years of service. Served as a Waukegan Township Highway Commissioner for 14 years. Worked and pitched ball for the Waukegan Steel & Wire Company. Pitched ball for Innocenzi Bros., Joe and Oliver of Highwood, IL. Pitched for the winning State Championship at the Mills Stadium in Chicago, 1939. Pitched three consecutive no hit, no run games during the 1939 Lake County Tournament. Taught golf at the Great Lakes Golf Course and Orchard Hills Golf Course for over 15 years. Played in several Pro-Am Golf Tournaments in the late forties with Sonny Rouse winning at St. Andrews in Chicago in 1950. Was a volunteer member of the Swing Club at the Veterans Hospital in North Chicago for many years. Was volunteer member and former president of the John W. Bedrosian, Barwell Goodfellowship Board for many years. Was a charter member of the Waukegan Chapter of Eagles. Member of the Waukegan Elks Lodge for over 30 years. Member of the American Legion Post since 1947. Served in the Navy for three years during World War II. Belongs to the Illinois Association of Retired Fire Fighters, and also a member of the Retired Steelworkers Retiree Club. Minnow, was inducted into the Lake County Hall of Fame in 1999, due in a large part to his outstanding pitching achievements in soft ball. Ed was preceded in death by his loving wife, of 52 years, Elaine. He leaves three children, daughter Barbara Burke (Michael) of Lone Rock, WI, daughter Judith Dembinsky (Richard) of Wadsworth, IL, and a son Daniel Manoyan of Kenosha, WI. Five grandchildren Laura Burke-Jarrell (Michael), Elaina Burke-Solie (Mark), Richard Dembinsky (Kristi), Edward Manoyan, and Randall Manoyan. Six great-grandchildren, Michael Jarrell, Joseph Jarrell, Austin Solie, Richard Dembinsky Jr, Alexandra Dembinsky, and Nicholas Dembinsky. Dad and Grandpa will be missed by all. A Private Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
