Joseph Eugene Miller, 64, of Zion, IL passed away at his home on Wednesday, February 24, 2010. He was born on March 25, 1945 in Waukegan and on September 9, 1966, he married Glenna Miller, to whom he had been married for 43 years.
Joseph had been bedridden for the last 3 years. He fought a courageous battle with emphysema with his wife, Glenna by his side each and every day.
Joseph worked for Peter Baker & Son Asphalt as a truck driver for nearly 30 years. In 1998 he retired due to an injury that left him disabled. He was a terrific cook, loved making Christmas cookies every year in addition to decorating the outside of their home each year. In 1989 his outdoor Christmas decorations won an award from the City of Zion. But most of all he enjoyed being with his family, his Grandchildren were the apple of his eye.
Survivors include his wife, Glenna; one son, Paul (Pamela) Miller of Kenosha, Wisconsin; three grandchildren Curtis, Jordan & Cierra; four brothers Bill (Janet) of Mauston, Wisconsin, Guy of Gurnee, Donald (Marilyn) of Mauston, Wisconsin, and Thomas (Carol) of Winthrop Harbor; five sisters Marion Zukowski of Phoenix, Arizona, Fannie Schroff of Gurnee, Illinois, Nancy Goodson of Waukegan, Illinois, Beverly (Lyle) Shilts of Waukegan, Illinois and Rebecca (Albert) Lidbloom of Phoenix, Arizona; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Virgil Miller in 1994, his mother, Rebecca in 1968; brothers Robert, Burton John, Virgil G., Clifford, David and Jimmy Miller; and sisters Virginia Pietschman and Pauline Umek.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2010, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd, Zion. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 1st, at 11:00 a.m. at Spirit of Life Church, 1222 Lorelei Drive, Zion, with Pastor Phyllis Miller officiating. Interment will follow at Northshore Garden of Memories, North Chicago.
