Obituary of Ollie Perry

Ollie Mae Perry, 85, a long time Zion resident, went to her final resting place Friday, March 19, 2010, at Victory Hospital in Waukegan. She was the beloved wife of the late Reverend Henry Tensley Perry, adored mother of Michael Perry, Linda (Lawrence) Williams-Taite, Richard (Patty) Perry, Sheila (Jerome) Peasand-Brown, John (Joyce) Perry and Maia (Brandon) Hoard; devoted grandmother of Sharde' Peasand, Louis Peasand Jr., Christopher Peasand, Alyssa Perry, Collin Perry, Jacob Mims, Jordan Troutman, Herbert Williams Jr. and Daija Mae Hoard; caring sister-in-law of Geneva Liddell of Waukegan; loved, cherished and respected by a hosts of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. For over 35 years prior to her 1989 retirement, Mrs. Perry was a Nursing Assistant at the North Chicago Veterans Administration Hospital. Upon retiring from the V.A., she brought 5 years of joy to many North Shore commuters as the manager of the Waukegan train station concession stand. She was born March 27, 1924 in Shelby, Mississippi to Charlie Liddell and Patsy Gregory Liddell. Orphaned at age 15, and typical of her lifelong selflessness, quit high school, at that time, to financially support her siblings. While working, married, and raising a family, she earned her G.E.D. and attended Sawyer Business College in Waukegan. She accepted Christ at an early age; and was an active, faithful, dedicated member, and former first lady, of Antioch Baptist Church, in Waukegan, from its founding in 1952 until the very end of her precious life. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, sisters Annie Bell Davis and Dealie Mae Washington, and brothers Fulton Liddell and Joe James Jackson. Visitation will be Saturday, March 27, 2010, from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at Antioch Baptist Church, 517 Helmhotz Avenue, Waukegan, Illinois, where a funeral service will follow at 11:00 a.m., Rev. A. C. Conley Sr., Pastor, officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion.
