John Douglas Peel, 63, of Zion, Illinois, died on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan.
John was born November 14, 1946 in Sidney, Montana, had lived in Waukegan for many years and moved to Zion 3 years ago after living in Kentucky for 8 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Humility Church of Zion. John served for 22 years with the United States Navy, retiring as Chief Petty Officer. After retiring from the Navy, he worked at Abbott Labs at Abbott Park. John was also a member of Knights of Columbus and the Masonic Lodge.
Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Ceferina; children, Rosa V. Coleman of Zion, Brigido V. Lim of Waukegan, Lorna P. (Montano) Abrazado of Oceanside, California, Melchor V. (Mary) Peel of Liberty, Mississippi, Belinda P. (Rolando) Balay of Zion, Elena P. (Jake) Tayor of Waukegan and Reynaldo V. (Deborah) Peel of Zion; nineteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Susan M. Jackson of Lexington, Kentucky and Leann (Fred) Schweitzer of Bowling Green, Kentucky; and two brothers, Michael (Linda) Peel of Terry, Montana and Kenneth (Debbie) Peel of Kewanee, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Victoria P. Jarencio; and by his parents, Homer and Lucille Peel.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 31, 2010, from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 1, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Congdon Funeral Home with private cremation to follow. Entombment will be held later at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park; Zion.
