Obituary of Fay Whitmore

Fay Lillian Whitmore, 87 of Zion, Illinois died on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan. Fay was born April 11, 1922 in Tupelo, Mississippi, the daughter of Elliott and Cora Nelson Martin of Vina, Alabama. Fay met her husband, Jack Whitmore, while working as a cashier in Ft. McClellan Alabama where Jack was serving as an Army MP. They were married on March 6, 1942 in Anniston, Alabama. They had 64 years together, working for many of those years at their neighborhood store, Whitmore's Grocery, in Zion, later they owned and operated Whitmore's Phillips 66 in Zion, before retiring to Pensacola Florida and then Cabool, Missouri. Fay was a member of the Illinois Dunesland Garden Club, the Winthrop Harbor Christian Church, and the Cabool Christian Church. Survivors include her daughter, Joyce (Alan) Schoenberg of Cartersville, GA, five sons; Richard (Linda) of Round Lake, IL, Rodney (Cynthia) of West Allis, WI, Randall (Andrea) of Wadsworth, IL, Roger (Kathleen)of Wadsworth, IL, Rondee (Cindy)of Zion, IL,. 15 grandchildren; Robin, Ragan, Ryan, Rodney, Rhonda, Alyssa, Alanna, Randall, Jasmin, Hilary, Reade, Michael, Marcus, Mandy and 10 great-grandchildren. Sisters Ouida Mae McClain of Memphis, TN, Betty Christian of Tupelo, MS , brother Cloyce Martin of Vina, AL. also survive. She's also survived by special friend and sister- in- law, Ruth Sheridan of Albuquerque New Mexico. Fay was preceded in death by her husband Jack, grandson Ray Dulaney and great grandson Anthony Dulaney. A visitation will be held Monday, April 5, 2010 from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. at CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Rd. Zion, IL. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion.
