James G. Shelton, 85, of Zion, IL died on Monday, May 28, 2012 at his home following a long illness.
He was born February 27, 1927 in Brookport, IL and had lived in Red Bay, AL. He married Thelma Harris on September 8, 1948. James was a member of Church of God of Prophecy (now Lakeside Church) in Zion. He served with the United States Army in Japan during World War II. He later retired from Johns-Manville after 47 years of service.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma; children Sharon (Larry) Keske of Beach Park, IL, Jeff (Karen) Shelton of Winthrop Harbor, IL, Tammie (Bob) Kuykendall of Waukegan, IL, and Jon (Hope) Shelton of Zion, IL; grandchildren Mike (Tammy) Keske, Matt (Casey) Keske, Marc Keske, Jeffrey Shelton, Stephen Shelton, Kristin (Jodi) Luka, Allison Luka, Tori Shelton, and James Shelton; four great-grandchildren Cory, Zack, Tyler, and Ava Keske; siblings Ray (Shirley) Shelton of Zion, IL, Clara Shelton, and Curtis (Sarah) Shelton of Tupelo, MS, Roland (Bobbie) Shelton of MI, Randall (Heather) Shelton of Zion, IL, Geneva Rowland of Winthrop Harbor, IL, and Mary (Ned) Olmstead of SC; sister-in-law Mary Helen Shelton of TN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother James Maynard Shelton; and his parents Cora and James Garfield Shelton Sr.
Visitation will be Monday, June 4, 2012, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon at the CONGDON FUNERAL HOME, 3012 Sheridan Road, Zion, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 noon, Chaplain Cregg Winnestrom officiating, assisted by Pastor Clarence Barry. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Memorial Park, Zion. The family would like to extend special thanks to Linda, Darlene, and Liz for their compassionate caring.
