Karen Smith

Karen R. Smith, was born on June 29, 1943, in Kenosha, WI. Karen grew up in Zion, IL, and graduated from Zion-Benton Township High School in 1961. She was a life long member of Christ Community Church in Zion. Karen devoted herself to her family, especially her grandchildren. Her only want was to see those around her happy. Her greatest joy was standing quietly in the background observing the smiles and laughter of her family. She loved to shop and play BINGO. Karen will be missed by her two surviving children, Johnna C. (David) Sims and Gordon H. (Julie) Smith; all of Zion; seven grandchildren, Lance Corporal Seth E. Sims, Travis D. Sims, Marissa A. Smith, Brandon A. Sims, Emma M. Sims, Colette M. Smith, and Brooke N. Smith; one great-granddaughter, Chloe M. Sims; brothers, Gordon D. (Betty Jo) Ohmstead of Zion, IL and Charles L. (Donna) Ohmstead of Forest City, N.C.; and sister, Emilie (Alvin) Hoselton of Tallahoma, TN. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon E. and Marion R. (nee Nogle) Ohmstead. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Congdon Funeral Home, 3012 Sheridan Rd., Zion, IL. Friends may greet the family on Tuesday, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
