Clara Ruth Horning, 99, of Zion, Illinois, died on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan.
Clara was born August 12, 1911 in Holladay, Tennessee and came to the Zion area around 1928. She was a long-time member of Memorial United Methodist Church of Zion. Clara retired from Johns-Manville in Waukegan after 36 years of employment and she was a member of the Quarter Century Club. She also belonged to the Zion Senior Citizens Club. Survivors include her three grandchildren, Catherine (the late Michael) Ginther of Kansas City, MO, Raymond Horning of Gainesville, Virginia and Matthew (Isadora) Horning of Kansas City, MO; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Foster in 1980; one son, David Lee Horning in 1988; four sisters, Opal Stack, Betty Jasper, Sybil Laster and Lucy King; and by four brothers, John, Edward, Leon and Bradley Oxford.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 11, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church, 2935 Sheridan Road, Zion, Illinois. Private interment will be later at Northshore Garden of Memories, North Chicago. Memorial donations to the Church have been suggested.
